Top 10 Things Having Cancer Has Taught Me

Hi there, friends!

Just a quick correction from last week—my care is being handled entirely at Stanford.

In case you missed my LIVE with Dr. Matt Lederman on Friday, you can watch it here: Watch now! We talked about my recent experience at Stanford, where I had my first real infusion, and we also covered an important topic:

Top 10 Things Having Cancer Has Taught Me

1️⃣ Don’t judge others – Everyone is dealing with something, even if you can’t see it. Compassion always wins.
2️⃣ Never say never – Life has a way of making you eat your words (hopefully, plant-based ones).
3️⃣ Nothing is guaranteed – Not time, not health, not even an avocado that’s ripe when you need it.
4️⃣ Mindset matters – A whole-food, plant-based diet is powerful, but a positive mindset is the real superfood.
5️⃣ Live each day fully – And if possible, include chocolate… or in my case, date-sweetened carob.
6️⃣ Genetics aren’t everything – They play a role, but your daily choices still shape your future.
7️⃣ Kindness wins – To others, to yourself, and even to people who still ask where you get your protein.
8️⃣ Worrying changes nothing – It just steals time you could spend living, laughing, or making more dessert.
9️⃣ Love and a dog are essential – Because a dog never asks annoying questions about protein.
🔟 Laughter is the best medicine – And unlike chemo, it has zero side effects.

I hope you’ll take a few minutes to watch the video and let me know what resonated with you!

Love & Kale,

Chef AJ
