Why I Love This Recipe

Hey there, fabulous foodies! It’s Chef AJ, your Queen of Quick and Easy Plant-Based Recipes! I’ve always loved the rich, creamy taste of eggnog during the holidays, but I wanted to create a plant-based version that’s just as comforting—without the eggs and dairy. This Holiday Eggless Nog is super easy to whip up in a blender and has the perfect balance of sweetness and spice. The best part? You can enjoy it guilt-free with no heavy cream or added sugars!

Eggnog is traditionally made with milk, cream, sugar, egg yolks, and alcohol, but this plant-based version is just as creamy and indulgent—without the eggs or dairy! George Washington himself is said to have enjoyed his eggnog with a mix of brandy, whiskey, rum, and sherry, but this eggless nog keeps things simple and alcohol-free (though you can always add a splash of rum extract for that festive flavor).

Key Ingredients

  • White Sweet Potatoes: These give the nog its rich, creamy texture and a subtle sweetness without needing eggs or cream. They’re also packed with fiber and vitamins.
  • Bananas: Frozen bananas make this nog creamy and naturally sweet, while adding a bit of tropical flavor.
  • Vanilla Bean Powder: Adds warmth and depth to the nog without the need for vanilla extract.
  • Unsweetened Plant Milk: Use your favorite plant milk for this recipe—almond, oat, or coconut milk work great. It keeps the nog smooth and dairy-free.
  • Nutmeg: A classic spice in eggnog, nutmeg adds warmth and that nostalgic holiday flavor.

The Process

Place all of the ingredients—white sweet potatoes, frozen bananas, vanilla bean powder, and plant milk—into a high-speed blender. Blend until smooth and creamy, adjusting the consistency by adding a little more plant milk if needed.

Once it’s perfectly blended, pour your nog into tall glasses and sprinkle with a pinch of nutmeg for that extra holiday touch. For those wanting a hint of rum flavor, add a splash of rum extract!

Chef’s Tips

  • If you like your nog thick, reduce the amount of plant milk slightly, or add a handful of ice cubes before blending.
  • If you want to give your nog a festive kick, you can add a splash of rum extract for flavor without the alcohol.
  • Serve chilled for the best experience and garnish with extra nutmeg or even a cinnamon stick for an extra festive touch.

How to Store

Store any leftover nog in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Give it a good shake or stir before serving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use regular sweet potatoes instead of white ones?

Yes, but the flavor will be slightly different. White sweet potatoes are less sweet than their orange counterparts and have a starchier texture that works well in this recipe.

Can I make this nog ahead of time?

Absolutely! Make it the day before and store it in the fridge until you’re ready to serve. Just give it a stir before serving.

Can I add alcohol to this recipe?

Yes! If you prefer a boozy version, feel free to add a splash of your favorite rum, brandy, or whiskey.

Serving Suggestion

This Holiday Eggless Nog is perfect on its own, but if you’re feeling extra indulgent, pair it with your favorite holiday cookies or desserts. It’s also a great addition to your holiday brunch or dinner table!

I cannot wait to try this. I will have to use the regular sweet potatoes, because the white ones are just not accessible for me in the area I live in. Which is nowheresville West Central Iowa. But, they will go on my gardening list for next year.
